Sure, there's a "sweet spot" percentage, but the truth is, it depends on your unique business goals. Let's dive into a 3-step framework to set your TikTok Shop commission strategy for success:

Step 1: Know Your Numbers Like the Back of Your Hand 

First things first, gotta understand your financial game plan. What's your target contribution margin (aka the profit you want to make after variable costs)? This includes things like production costs, shipping, and other fees.

Average Order Value (AOV) - Variable Costs - Target Contribution Margin = Commission Rate

Step 2: Get Strategic with Incentives  

Many brands start with a commission rate between 20-30%. Think of it as an investment in attracting top creators. Remember, these folks get bombarded with offers daily! Standing out with a competitive rate is key.   

But wait! Don't go overboard if your margins are razor-thin. The key here is to balance profitability with attracting the right influencers.  

Step 3: Think Long-Term: Halo Effect and Repeat Customers  

Now, things get interesting! Consider your product lifecycle and overall channel mix.  

Selling one-time purchases like vacuums? Focus on making a profit on that initial sale. Think of it as an investment in customer acquisition.  

On the other hand, if you sell repeat-purchase items like hair oil (even with potential returns), you can be more aggressive with commissions. Why? You're building a loyal customer base that might bring long-term profits!  

Bonus Tip: Strategic SKU Placement  

Have a massive product catalog across multiple channels (like Amazon)? This opens up a world of strategic possibilities! 

You can exclusively offer certain products on TikTok Shop, or bundle them in unique ways. This drives traffic to your TikTok Shop while keeping customers engaged across all your sales channels.
